3-Peat for The Red Wolves – Sun Belt Conference Football Champs, Again

JONESBORO, Ark. – With the 2013 regular season completed for all eight conference football members, Arkansas State has claimed a third consecutive Sun Belt Conference football championship with a 5-2 league record that placed it atop the standings with Louisiana-Lafayette.

A-State closed out its regular season Nov. 30, and two days later the Red Wolves accepted an official invitation to play in the GoDaddy Bowl on Jan. 5 in Mobile, Ala., at Ladd-Peebles Stadium.  Louisiana-Lafayette entered its final regular-season contest today with a half-game lead in the Sun Belt standings, but will share the championship with A-State after suffering a 30-8 setback to South Alabama.

Arkansas State is now the third team in Sun Belt history to claim at least a share of three consecutive conference championships, joining Troy (2006-10) and North Texas (2001-04).  The Red Wolves have also won three league championships in a row for just the second time in school history, also claiming Southland Conference titles from 1968-70.

A-State has posted a 20-3 Sun Belt Conference record for an .869 winning percentage over the last three seasons, which included outright league championships in both 2011 and 2012.

A-State is expected to learn this weekend who its Mid-American Conference opponent will be for the GoDaddy Bowl.  Fans are strongly encouraged to purchase tickets only through the A-State Ticket Office to directly support the Red Wolves and to ensure they receive priority seating within the designated A-State area.

Bowl tickets are only $45 per ticket when purchased through the A-State Ticket Office. Tickets will be available for purchase at the pep rally event, but fans can also go to AStateRedWolves.com and click on ‘Bowl Game Central’ (AStateRedWolves.com/BowlGame) to order tickets.  The A-State Ticket Office, located at the Convocation Center’s lower red entrance, is also taking walk-up or telephone (870-972-2781) orders. 

Special pricing is also available for students in the designated student zone when ordered through the A-State Ticket Office. Students may also use their A-State Express Dollars to purchase tickets.
