Great American Conference‘s Arkansas Baseball Teams Nab Half of the Top Spots

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The NCAA released its first regional rankings of the 2015 season on Wednesday afternoon and the Southern Arkansas baseball team checks in as the No. 5 team in the Central Region.

As the No. 5-ranked team, the Muleriders (31-15. 17-10 GAC) are the highest-ranked in the Great American Conference in the initial Central Region rankings with Henderson State (No. 6), Ouachita Baptist (No. 7), and Harding (No. 8) rounding out the top-eight.

St. Cloud State (No. 1) and Minnesota State-Mankato (No. 2) of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) top the Central Region rankings with Emporia State (No.3) and Missouri Southern (No. 4) of the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) claiming the next two slots.

The top six teams in the final regional rankings advance to the regional tournament at a site to be determined.

SAU, GAC Tournament Champions each of the last three seasons, has advanced to a regional tournament for seven-straight years.

Henderson will end the regular season in a three-game series at OBU. The first game is set for 3 p.m. Friday.

Not only are Arkansas baseball teams having success in positioning for post-season play, a couple of softball teams are shining for the GAC, too.

The Arkansas Tech Golden Suns softball team will enter the final weekend of the regular season ranked at No. 2 in the Central Region softball poll announced Wednesday on NCAA.com.

Tech leads a pack of three Great American Conference squads ranked in the poll, as Henderson State checks in at No. 6 and East Central debuts at No. 10.

Augustana leads the way in the region at No. 1, while Tech is followed by Central Missouri, Central Oklahoma, and Missouri Western in the No. 3, No. 4, and No. 5 spots. Emporia State, Winona State, and Minnesota State are ranked at No. 7, No. 8, and No. 9 to round out the region poll.
