Arkansas State Closes Memphis Intercollegiate with Best Round

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (3/26/13) – The Arkansas State men’s golf team completed the Memphis Intercollegiate on Tuesday with its best round of the two-day tournament, recording a 312 and finishing in 15th place with a combined 312.

A-State posted a first-round 320 Monday and completed the second round, which was suspended yesterday due to darkness, this morning with a 324. Three of the Red Wolves’ five competing golfers posted their best personal score during the final 18 holes, including Easton Key and Alex Hewitt with a 77 that was the best single-round total of the tournament by an ASU player.

A-State finished behind 14th-place Cincinnati, while Austin Peay State claimed the tournament title with an 897. Louisiana-Lafayette was runner-up with an 899 and host Memphis took third place with a 906.

The Red Wolves were led by Chance Holden, who finished tied for 60th place with a 238. He was followed by Seth Garner in a tie for 66th place with a 240, while Key and Christian Helmbold both tied for 70th with a 244. Hewitt posted a combined 255 to finish 89th.

The Red Wolves will return to action April 1-2 when they host the ASU Red Wolf Intercollegiate.
