University of Central Arkansas baseball team pitcher Bryce Biggerstaff was named a Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week on Monday after tossing a no-hitter against Jackson State on Sunday at Bear Stadium.

Biggerstaff, a junior righthander from Sherwood, threw the school’s second no-hitter, striking out a career-high nine in the Bears’ 13-0 victory over the Tigers. Biggerstaff had a perfect game through five inninings before hitting the first batter of the sixth inning. Biggerstaff sailed through eight innings, then struck out the first two batters in the ninth and got a ground ball in front of the plate that catcher Michael Marietta gunned to first for the final out.

Biggerstaff is 1-0 on the season with a 1.80 earned-run average, striking out 12 and walking just 1 in 15 innings. He was one of six players named Monday as National Players of the Week, joining players from Virginia, North Carolina State, Florida State, Maryland and The Citadel.

The only other no-hitter in UCA history was in 1969 when Mike Moore beat UALR 4-0.
