Bisons Football Players Westbrook and Smithey Earn All-America Honors

SEARCY – Harding sophomore fullback Romo Westbrook and senior offensive tackle Austin Smithey earned All-America honors from Don Hansen’s Football Gazette this week.

Westbrook, a native of Marion, Ark., was named to the 2nd Team, and Smithey, who hails from Mesquite, Texas, was honorable mention.

Westbrook carried 110 times for 660 yards and five touchdowns in Harding’s flexbone offense. His best game came against Arkansas Tech when he rushed six times for 181 yards and two touchdowns. Westbrook was 1st Team All-Great American Conference and 1st Team All-Super Region 3. 

Smithey started all 11 games at right tackle. The Bisons rushed for 320.1 yards per game, fourth-best in Division II, behind Smithey and the Harding offensive line. 

The Harding duo was two of 10 GAC players honored by the Don Hansen Football Committee.
