Brandon Peterson of the ASU Red Wolves Reaches 1,000th Point Mark

JONESBORO, Ark. (1/27/13) – Senior forward Brandon Peterson of the Arkansas State University men’s basketball team tallied the 1,000th point of his career in Saturday’s (Jan. 26) 63-38 win against Florida Atlantic at the ASU Convocation Center in Jonesboro, Ark.

Peterson scored his historic point on a layp with 1:47 remaining in Saturday’s Sun Belt Conference (SBC) contest and as a result is the 25th individual in A-State men’s basketball history to register 1,000 career points. The 6-8 frontcourt player concluded the Red Wolves’ home victory with game highs in both points (15) and rebounds (10) in 27 minutes of action. With his noteworthy performance, Peterson produced his career season-best eighth double-double of this campaign and third in a row to date.

This season, Peterson is presently averaging a career season-high 11.4 points per game (228 pts.) while starting in all 20 A-State contests. The ASU tri-captain has compiled 15 double-figure scoring games, including nine consecutive earlier this season (11/13-12/19). He also has recorded double digits in rebounds on nine occasions this campaign. 

For his career, Peterson has scored 1,001 points in 116 games for an 8.6 average. He also has totaled an ASU all-time ninth-most 777 rebounds and a program third-highest 146 blocked shots. Peterson needs 23 rebounds to claim 800 in his career and would be the eighth individual at A-State to attain the notable mark.

A native of Birmingham, Ala., Peterson was tabbed a preseason All-SBC Second-Team selection for the 2012-13 campaign. He also garnered preseason third-team all-conference recognition by College Sports Madness. Peterson, who prepped at E.B. Erwin High School in Birmingham, was named to College Sports Madness’ All-SBC Third Team for the 2011-12 season.

Peterson and the Red Wolves continue their current conference homestand this week, entertaining the South Alabama Jaguars this Thursday (Jan. 31) before tangling with the North Texas Mean Green this Saturday (Feb. 2) in Jonesboro. Both games are slated for a 7:05 p.m. (CT) opening tipoff at the ASU Convocation Center.
