Razorbacks Lose to South Carolina

ATLANTA, Ga. – Arkansas’ SEC Tournament bid was cut short by South Carolina on Thursday as the Razorbacks fell in a back-and-forth contest, 71-69.

In a second half with 18 lead changes, Arkansas had themselves in posession of or slightly off the lead for the entire 20 minute period. A jumper by junior Rashad Madden brought the Razorbacks even with South Carolina just minutes into the second period and neither team was able to break more than three points from the other from then on.

Senior Coty Clarke led the Razorbacks with 13 points, followed closely by Madden and freshman Bobby Portis with 11 each. Sophomore Michael Qualls was the final of four Razorbacks in double figures with an even 10 points.

Outworked on the boards by eight in the first half, Arkansas was unable to create a stronger presence around the rim in the final 20 minutes and the Gamecocks finished with a commanding 16 board edge at the end of the game with 40 snags.

Arkansas stuck true to its style of play and forced 15 South Carolina turnovers, capitalizing with 19 miscue points.

The close miss will send the Razorbacks home from Atlanta earlier than planned, waiting in Fayetteville to hear if their season will continue.
