SEARCY – Harding University senior defensive end Ty Powell was named 2nd Team All-America on Thursday by D2football.com. He is only the second Bison to earn All-America honors from the organization, who also named Torrance “Tank” Daniels to its All-America team in 2005.

Powell, a native of Marina, Calif., led Harding with 15.0 tackles for loss and 8.5 sacks. He had 40 tackles, blocked four kicks and recovered two fumbles.

Powell, who transferred to Harding from De Anza College, is the first Bison defensive lineman to earn All-America honors since Tim Love was a 3rd Team honoree by the Football Gazette in 2002. Harding’s last defensive end to earn All-America was Paul Simmons, Harding’s current defensive coordinator. Simmons was NAIA 1st Team All-America in 1992 and 1993.

Powell is currently training at IMG Academy in Florida in preparation for a potential NFL career. He is scheduled to play in the Texas vs. the Nation All-Star Game on Feb. 2 in Allen, Texas.
