It Was a Bad Day for Missouri Tigers Football – Razorbacks Get 2 New Recruits

Friday was a bad day for Missouri Tigers football fans as news trickled out that the Arkansas Razorbacks got verbal commitments from two highly-prized recruits who were weighing offers from the Southeastern Conference school from Columbia.

The first commitment of the day came from Jared Cornelius, a 6-1, 185-pound wide receiver from Evangel Christian in Shreveport, La. As Doc Harper noted, Cornelius is the fifth prospect to commit to the Razorbacks from Louisiana.

The second get for the Razorbacks was Armon Watts, a 6-5, 275-pound, three-star-rated defensive lineman from Christian Brothers College High School in St. Louis, Mo. That loss had to make a bad day for Missouri Tigers football a little worse. In addition to the Missouri Tigers, Armon Watts boasted offers from Kentucky, Wisconsin and others.

With these two new commitments for the 2014 signing class, the Razorbacks have increased the total number of that class to 16. Khalia Hackett, a 6-2, 205-pound safety from Douglasville, Ga., committed to the Hogs late in July, accepting an offer to Arkansas over Kentucky, Georgia Tech and Troy.

Despite the pickups, Rivals currently lists the Arkansas Razorbacks as No. 30 in its rankings of schools’ 2014 recruiting classes, behind No. 29 Western Michigan but ahead of No. 31 Oklahoma. The complete ranking from Rivals is available here.

Jared Cornelius indicated he would announce his decision on Twitter, which he did, and do did his school.
