And Henderson State Plays to Keep D-II 2015 College World Series Championship Dreams Alive

No. 15 Henderson State will meet up again with No. 10 Angelo State as the two teams play an elimination game, Wednesday at the NCAA Division II Baseball Championships in Cary, N.C.

First pitch for the rematch is set for  11 a.m. due to potential inclement weather.

Six teams of eight remain in the National Championship Tournament as Wilmington and Truman State have already been eliminated.

The winner will advance to play on Thursday at 2 p.m. against the winner of the Tampa/Mercyhurst game.

Henderson State, 32-20 on the year beat Angelo State (42-17) on opening day of the tournament 4-0. The Reddies then lost to No. 2 Catawba 5-1 on Monday. Angelo State rebounded with a 5-0 win over Wilmington University to advance.

Henderson State will need to get the offense in gear as the Reddies have totaled just 11 hits in the two games. In their Central Regional run, the Reddies collected 10 or more hits in every game.

Hunter Mayall, who is now hitting .371 on the season, is 3-for-6 at the national tournament while Hayden Lessenberry is 2-for-4 after his efforts against Catawba. Cody Jones will pitch for the Reddies against the Rams. Jones has a 6-3 record after last week’s win against Minnesota State where he went 8 2/3 innings, striking out nine batters.

The senior from Phoenix, Ariz. leads the Reddies in strikeouts having fanned 60 batters in 66.2 innings.

Jones will have to contend with a Ram offense that is hitting .300 which includes 107 doubles, six triples and 41 home runs.

Paxton DeLaGarza leads the team with a .395 average, having nine home runs and 53 RBI.

Angelo State has not announced its starting pitcher. Either Dillon Becker (8-2, 2.38 ERA) or Bryce Zak (5-6, 2.67 ERA) are probable. Wednesday’s game will be aired on ESPN 106.9 FM in Arkadelphia. Fans can also listen via the internet at www.hsusports.com.

In addition, all games will be live video streamed courtesy of the NCAA.
