Lady Lions Victorious In Clash With The Lady Panthers

Pine Bluff, AR- Tonight, the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Lady Lions notched another conference victory against the Lady Panthers of Prairie View A&M University, 57-50.

UAPB sputtered out of the gate as Prairie View took off to a four zero run. The Lady Lions would gain their first lead, five to four at the 14:34 mark; but would not hold the lead again until the last minute of the first half. The Lady Panthers would lead by as much as seven points, 12-19, at which point UAPB went on an eight zero run to take the lead, 20-19 with 2:05 left to go before intermission.

Both teams would go into half time knotted up at 23 all.

The Lady Lions came out after halftime and quickly went up by three, at the 18:02 mark, when Lakendra Marsh knocked in a jumper from behind the arc.

Prairie View made good on a couple of turnovers and took control of the score at 16:21 and would stretch the lead to as much as 10. But it took the Lady Lions almost 10 minutes to battle back and take the lead before knocking down seven free throws down the stretch to hold of Prairie View 57-50.

The Lady Panthers would out rebound UAPB, 39-24, but lost out on the turnover battle 20-23.

Chigozianyi Okwumbua would lead all scorers tonight with 13 points, going nine-of-thirteen from the free throw line. She also grabbed five rebounds. Christina Lasane added 11 points, knocking down fifty percent of her shots from the field.

Jeanette Jackson, of Prairie View, put up 12 points, while JaQuandria Williams scored nine points and grabbed 13 rebounds.

The Lady Lions will be on the road for the next two weeks with stops in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama; before returning home on February 9th to face Southern University.
