Lynx Press Erases Warrior Lead

CONWAY, Ark. – Fourteen second half turnovers leading to 13 points cost the Hendrix College women’s basketball team against Rhodes College in Southern Athletic Association play on Saturday. The visiting first-place Lynx (12-1, 4-0) press worked to their advantage as they overcame a nine-point Warrior (0-15, 0-4) lead in the second half, resulting in a 70-59 victory

The Warriors lead 30-26 at half and scored the first five points of the second period to go up 35-26 with 18:22 to play. Nearly four minutes later, Hendrix led 40-32, but the Rhodes press led to eight turnovers and 16-0 run over a four-half minute stretch, giving the Lynx a 48-40 advantage and control of the game.

For the game, the Warriors shot 39 percent (18-of-46) from the field, 7-of-15 from three-point range and 16-of-24 at the free throw line. The Lynx shot 39 percent (28-of-71) overall, 6-of-22 from outside and 8-of-19 at the stripe. Hendrix held a 41-38 lead in rebounds, but Rhodes had 21 steals, compared to just four for the home squad.

Junior Jamie Tate led the Warriors with 21 points, nine rebounds, two blocks and three steals. Freshman guard Caitlin Kriesel-Bigler added 14 points, hitting a trio of three-pointers, and dished out five assists. Guards Kati Broberg and Estrella Flores had six points each and junior forward Katie Coughran pulled down eight boards.

Lauren Avant paced the Lynx with 30 points on 12-of-18 shooting to go with six rebounds and five steals. Sarah Womack had 14 points and four assists and Sarah Johnson recorded 11 assists and seven steals.

Hendrix will host SAA-foe Birmingham-Southern College on Friday at 6 p.m.
