OBU Tiger Wrestling Finishes 1-2 at UCM Duals

WARRENSBURG, Mo.- A quick start to the day wasn’t enough to fuel the Ouachita Tiger wrestling team the rest of the way on Tuesday at the UCM Duals, hosted by the University of Central Missouri. The Tigers won their first dual by a score of 25-18, before dropping their next two by scores of 29-17 and 33-11.

The Tigers victory came over host Central Missouri, as they won six of the 10 matches. Tiger victories were highlighted by a 14-0 major decision for Josh Myers in the 141 lb weight class, as well as major decisions from Bobby Williams in the 157 lb weight class and Seth Calvert in the 197 lb class. The only pin for the Tigers came from Dallas Smith in the 184 lb class.

In their second dual of the day, Ouachita fell to Ashland University by a score of 29-17. Ashland won six of the 10 matches, including three wins by pin. Notable victories for the Tigers included another major decision for Josh Myers in the 141, as well as a pin from Bobby Williams in the 157 and a major decision for Dallas Smith in the 184. Dexter Carter took the other victory for the Tigers, recording a decision victory in the 149 lb class.

The last match of the day was the roughest for the Tigers, as Fort Hays State captured a 33-11 victory, winning seven of the 10 match-ups. Ouachita’s victories in the dual came from Garrett Evans, Bobby Williams and Dallas Smith. Evans recorded a major decision in the 125 lb weight class, while Williams recorded a 6-1 decision to close out an undefeated day for himself. Dallas Smith finished off his day without a loss, recording a major decision.

The Tigers return to action on January 18, when they host the University of Central Oklahoma for their last home dual of the year. The dual is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start at Bill Vining Arena on the campus of Ouachita Baptist University.
