OBU Tigers Beat Arkansas Tech Wonder Boys 34-24

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Ouachita Baptist Tigers held Arkansas Tech to 57 yards rushing and forced three turnovers, including two fourth quarter interceptions, to come away with a 34-24 win in Russellville.

The Tiger offense rushed for 194 yards, led by Steven Kehner‘s 105 yards. Kehner had a 46-yard run in the fourth quarter that set up a Matthew Ehasz field goal to put the game away. Chris Rycraw rushed for 75 yards on 19 carries and found the endzone twice. His first touchdown was from 17 yards out and it put the Tigers up 7-0 with 9:44 left in the first quarter.

Wide receiver Jalen Jones had another big day with 10 catches for 103 yards and two touchdowns. His first came at the end of the second quarter, allowing the Tigers to go into halftime with a 17-10 lead. His second came in the third quarter with the game tied at 17-17 and put the Tigers ahead 24-17.

Tech’s Deandre’ Bonner would return an interception 43 yards for a touchdown to tie the game at 24-24. It was Tech’s third pick of the game. Ouachita would respond in the fourth quarter when Rycraw would score his second rushing touchdown with just over 11 minutes left to play and put the Tigers up 31-24.

After a missed 33-yard field goal by Tech, OBU would run off a 10 play, 73 yard drive that consumed just over five minutes off the clock and ended with a 25 yard Ehasz field goal to put the Tigers up for good.

Greg Williams and Zack Mitchell each came up with fourth-quarter interceptions to stop the final two Tech drives and hold on for 34-24 win.

For the Tigers senior linebackers Rickey Brown and Jackson Guerra had nine and eight tackles respectively. Brown had one tackle for loss and Guerra forced a fumble.

Senior defensive end Antwion Patterson had eight tackles, one sack and 2.5 tackles for loss. Fellow defensive lineman Dion Young had eight tackles and a fumble recovery.

Junior defensive back Etauj Allen had three punt returns for 105 yards, including a longest of 46 yards. He also returned 2 kickoffs, the longest totaling 32 yards.

The Tigers are now 6-1 on the season. They travel to Magnolia, Ark. next week to take on the Southern Arkansas University Muleriders. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:00 pm.
