Occasional Countdown to Kickoff – Classic Arkansas High School Football

As we count down the weeks and days until the start of the college football season, we thought it would be fun to provide an occasional look at some great games of the past. If you’re like some of us, anything we can do to get a football fix until the real season starts helps with the withdrawals we face this time of year.

So here you go football fans. The fourth “Occasional Countdown to Kickoff.” These videos are a treasure, to be sure – actual game footage from Jonesboro High School football games.

The first is from the 1969 state championship game featuring Jonesboro High School and Springdale High School. The video features play by two Jonesboro stars, Rickey Cooksey and Danny Johns, in their senior year in high school, just shortly before their fatal car accident at Payneway enroute to the Sugar Bowl. The Jonesboro high school football stadium is named after them – Cooksey-Johns Memorial Stadium.

The second is a classic grudge match between Jonesboro High and North Little Rock High School in the 1970 season.
