Proposed Hot Springs Sports Complex Vs. Burns Park – Poll

Visit Evin's Author PageThere has been escalating talk of a new regional sports complex in the Hot Springs area that would be a major tourist attraction.

Plans include a smorgasbord of outdoor amenities: soccer fields, softball fields, a ‘fourplex’ youth baseball area that would be the central focus, four youth baseball fields,  mountain biking trails, interpretive stations, wildlife blinds, day camp activities, small pavilions, picnicking, flag football and even lacrosse.

This sounds all very good – good for people’s actual health and good for the area’s economic health, but it also sounds mighty familiar.

Burns Park, North Little Rock’s crown jewel recreational mecca, has already hosted plenty regional and even national youth sports tournaments. The 1,700-acre park, after all, has its own baseball, softball and soccer complexes.

Burns Park serves as the same kind of tourist destination and conduit role for North Little Rock and Little Rock that is envisioned for the Hot Springs sports complex.

There are only so many youth sports tournaments in the mid South.  Is the emergence of a new sports complex in central Arkansas bad news for Burns Park?
