Razorback Swimming and Diving Team Readies for SEC Championships

FAYETTEVILLE – The University of Arkansas Razorback swimming and diving team will compete at the SEC Championships held at the University of Georgia in Athens, Ga., from Tuesday to Saturday. The team enters championship season with a dual meet record of 9-1 (3-1 SEC). During the regular season, 10 swimmers earned NCAA ‘B’ cut times across 11 events and four divers recorded NCAA zone-qualifying scores over three events. 

Arkansas began the 2013-14 by taking first place at the North Texas Relay Invitational, and then recording four dual-meet wins at North Texas, at LSU, at Missouri State and against Nebraska. 

The team also accomplished a major victory to end the fall semester with a win at the Mizzou Invitational in Columbia, Mo., earning 809 points, 111 points more than second-place Utah and 112 points more than SEC opponent Missouri.

After a brief winter hiatus, Arkansas returned to competition with a win over Kentucky and a loss to Alabama in a double-dual meet in Tuscaloosa, Ala., on Jan. 11.  Arkansas hosted its final two double-dual meets of the season posting wins over Rice, Clemson, Kansas and Vanderbilt for a perfect home meet record. 

Last season, the Razorbacks finished in sixth place with a total of 594 points at the SEC Championships and broke eight school records. Then-sophomore Nikki Daniels posted an NCAA ‘A’ cut time in the 100-yard breaststroke to automatically qualify for the NCAA Championships. Arkansas also earned its first relay ‘A’ cut in school history in the 200 medley relay and three members of that team, Susanna White, Daniels and Nina Drolc, are returning to compete this season. 

Swimming prelims begin at 9 a.m. CT each morning followed by diving prelims at 10 a.m. on Tuesday and noon all other days. Finals will begin at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday and at 5 p.m. all other days. 

Live streaming of the finals sessions will be available Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. and Wednesday through Saturday at 5 p.m. Links to the live streams will be posted at ArkansasRazorbacks.com as they become available before competition. A 90-minute highlight show of the women’s competition will air on ESPNU on March 4 at 4:30 p.m.
