Red Wolves Host National Signing Day Event

JONESBORO, Ark. – The Arkansas State football team will hold its annual Recruiting Round-Up National Signing Day Event for fans, Wednesday, Feb. 5, at the Convocation Center auditorium from 5-6 p.m., bringing fans an interactive experience with new head coach Blake Anderson and his staff while also viewing video highlights of the latest class of Red Wolves.

There is no charge for admission, and the A-State band will be performing just inside the Convocation Center’s lower red entrance to welcome fans as they enter the building.  The one-hour program will feature a live radio broadcast for the second consecutive year on East Arkansas Broadcaster’s KFIN 107.9 FM, 95.3 FM The Ticket and KNEA 970 AM.

The radio show, presented by Centennial Bank, will be hosted by Red Wolves’ football play-by-play commentator Matt Stolz, and will feature an interactive segment with the fans when they will be able to ask the coaching staff about the 2014 signing class.  The radio breaks will also include some question-and-answer sessions with those in attendance, but also feature the A-State cheerleaders leading fans in cheers.

Following the conclusion of the formal program, members of the three-time defending Sun Belt Conference champion Arkansas State football team will hold an autograph session on the Convocation Center arena concourse.  The 2011-13 Sun Belt championship trophies will be on site for photograph opportunities as well.

Those attending the Recruiting Round-Up will receive a voucher that will grant free admission to the Arkansas State women’s basketball game against Western Kentucky, also scheduled for Feb. 5 and set for a 7:05 p.m. tip at the Convocation Center.  With the Red Wolves currently in first place in the Sun Belt standings and the Hilltoppers in second, the game will pit two of conference leaders against each other.

“We’re excited about our Recruiting Round-Up again this year,” said Assistant Athletics Director for Marketing and Fan Experience Sarah Munoz.  “Between our fans and everything we have planned, it will make for an energetic atmosphere at the Convocation Center.  This is a great opportunity to not only get an early look at the latest Red Wolves, but also for both our coaching staff and fans to interact with one another.

“We encourage everyone who attends the program to stay afterwards, meet with some of our football players inside the Convocation Center, and then support our first-place women’s basketball team.”

Additionally, Arkansas State Athletics is offering “Signing Day Central” on its official Web site, AStateRedWolves.com, throughout National Signing Day on Wednesday, Feb. 5, for the seventh consecutive year.

“Signing Day Central” will update during the day and feature complete bios of A-State’s football signees as soon as their National Letter of Intent is received.  In addition to the bios and stats, “Signing Day Central” will also provide fans free video highlights of those players signing with Arkansas State.  The free online highlights can be accessed by clicking on a player’s name at the beginning of his bio.

The 2014 A-State signing class will be the first under Blake Anderson, who was named the Red Wolves’ 30th all-time head coach on Dec. 19, 2013.  The Red Wolves are coming off their third consecutive Sun Belt Conference championship season and their second straight GoDaddy Bowl victory.

Including back-to-back 10-win seasons in 2011 and 2012 and eight more in 2013, the Red Wolves have recorded 28 victories for their most over a three-year span since winning 29 from 1985-87 as an NCAA I-AA (now FCS) member.  The Red Wolves’ 28 total wins over the last three seasons also ranks tied for the 20th most in the nation over that time period.

Arkansas State will hold an official Signing Day Press Conference with Anderson on Wednesday at 3 p.m.  The press conference will be streamed live and available at no charge in the StateZone portion of AStateRedWolves.com.
