Rivalry Thursday: UAM Basketball Teams Set for SAU

MONTICELLO — The University of Arkansas at Monticello basketball teams are set to conclude the first half of Great American Conference play against rival Southern Arkansas on Thursday night at home inside Steelman Field House. 

Thursday’s night games are being features as 99 cent hot dog night, with ARAMARK Food Services selling hot dogs for 99 cents each while supplies last. The women’s game starts at 5:30 p.m. with the men’s game to follow at approximately 7:30 p.m.

The Cotton Blossoms enter Thursday’s game against SAU with a 2-12 overall record and a 0-9 record in GAC games, while the SAU Lady Muleriders have yet to reach the win column this season with a 0-14 overall record and a 0-9 record in league contests. UAM is coming off a 77-59 loss to Harding this past Saturday on the road, while SAU suffered a 99-46 loss to Arkansas Tech on Saturday on the road.

The Boll Weevils are 9-6 overall and 4-5 in the league, while the SAU men sport a 6-9 overall record and a 2-7 record in GAC contests. UAM lost to Harding 57-50 last Saturday on the road, while SAU is coming off a 64-54 loss to Arkansas Tech on the road. SAU has lost six of its last seven contests as well as its last five conference games.

The Boll Weevils and Cotton Blossoms follow Thursday’s games this Saturday, January 25, facing off against Henderson State to start the second round of conference games. Saturday’s double-header starts at 2 p.m. at the Duke Wells Center in Arkadelphia, Ark.
