The Important Role of Spinal Nerves

Nerves run along the spinal cord and branch out between vertebrae, sending and receiving messages to and from the brain. The spinal nerves are divided into segments according to their location in the spinal cord; there are 8 cervical nerves, 12 thoracic nerves, 5 lumbar nerves, 5 sacral nerves, and one coccygeal nerve. Each nerve correlates to a part of the body’s anatomy and is essential to that part’s function.
