Red Wolves Record Five First Place Finishes

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (2/9/13) – The Arkansas State men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams competed and won five first place titles at Hoosier Hills. The competition was hosted by Indiana University on Friday and Saturday.

Junior Sharika Nelvis won two titles in the women’s 60-meter dash and women’s 60-meter hurdles. Nelvis won the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.44  and was the victor in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.34.

A-State’s other champions on the day included junior Joseph Meyer in the men’s 400-meter dash with a time of 47.24, senior Solomon Williams in the men’s 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.04, and junior Kristina Aubert in the women’s 3000 meter run with a time of 9:52.51.

In the men’s field events, freshman Foster Ngowe took fifth place in the triple jump with a mark of 43-00.25 (13.11m), junior Kashef Daniel finished fourth in the high jump with a jump of 6-9.00 (2.06m), senior Corwin Pace was third in the shot put with 50-04.00 (15.34m), junior Tyler Lingo finished two spots behind Pace in the shot put with a toss of 49-07.75 (15.13m), and junior Chris Nicasio finished third in the weight throw with a throw of 60-09.25 (18.52m).

In the women’s field events, freshman Taylor Swanson finished third in the pole vault with a height of 12-05.50 (3.80m) and senior Julia Agawu finished third in the weight throw with a throw of 56-10.00 (17.32m).

In the men’s running events, junior Justin Whitfield finished fourth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.98.

In the women’s running events, sophomore Rexi Parcells finished second in the one mile run with a time of 5:08.02 and senior Samantha Salinas finished fifth in the 3000-meter run with a time of 10:03.77. Arkansas State’s “B” team of Parcells, sophomore Bailey Sisson, freshman Alexandra Pevtsova, and Salinas finished third in the distance medley with a time of 12:22.06. Arkansas State’s “A” team of sophomore Tilda Helgesson, sophomore Heather Newberry, freshman Shakeria Marshall, and Aubert finished fourth in the distance medley with a time of 12:22.78.

 

Arkansas State’s next indoor track meet is the Sun Belt Conference Championships that will be held in Jonesboro Feb. 24-25.
