UAPB Golden Lions Victorious Against Hornets

Montgomery, AL- In SWAC basketball action this evening, the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Golden Lions took on the Hornets at the Acadome on the campus of Alabama State University. 

The Golden Lions were in a shoot-out all night with the Hornets, as Joshua Freelove would start the game on shooting spree; he gave Alabama State its first lead of the night less than a minute into tonight’s contest. Some solid defense would produce early turnovers for the Golden Lions allowing them to keep themselves in the ballgame. The score we be tied nine times in the first half, before the Golden Lions would push their lead to as much as 10 on the way to 47-41 halftime lead.

After the intermission, the second half belonged to the Golden Lions, pushing their lead to nine, 66-57, at the 9:57 mark. The Hornets would pull to within one, but that would be the closest they would get as the UAPB would hold off ASU for an 81-77 final.

UAPB had five players in double figures tonight. Lazabian Jackson was the high point man for the Golden Lions turning in 20 points, while hitting six three pointers. Davon Haynes and Terrell Kennedy put in 13 points apiece. Daniel Broughton had 12 points and six rebounds, while Tevin Hammond added 10 points and eight assists.

Freelove led all scorers tonight with 29 points and Philip Crawford had 21 points and nine rebounds, respectively.

Up next for the Golden Lions is a Monday night match-up against the Bulldogs of Alabama A&M. Tip-off is set for 7:30 PM.
