UCA Bears Tennis Blanks UA Fort Smith

The Central Arkansas tennis team took a break from Southland Conference play to face in-state opponent Arkansas-Fort Smith on Tuesday afternoon. The Bears (4-6) defeated the Lady Lions (4-5) handily, picking up a 7-0 win.

Central Arkansas took two of three doubles matches from UAFS to grab the first point of the day. Krizia Buck and Allison Murphy picked up their third win of the season with an 8-1 win over Madison Carr and Amy Belanger. Kristina Horsikyan and Anna Buyukyan took down Taylor Price and Abby Thompson by a score of 9-8 to earn their seventh doubles victory of the season. In the final doubles match, UAFS’ Whitney Hobson and Masa Podunavac defeated Sasha Ruocco and Simona Horsikyan 9-7, dropping the Central Arkansas pair’s record to 3-5 in doubles play this season.

Central Arkansas dominated singles play, taking all six matches to secure the victory. Simona Horsikyan got her fifth victory of the season with a 6-0, 6-4 defeat of Podunavac. Murphy improved to 5-4 this season with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Price. In the no. 3 singles match, Kristina Horsikyan picked up her third victory of the season, a 7-6, 6-2 win over Belanger. Buck improved to 6-4 on the season, taking down Carr by a score of 6-3, 6-2. Ruocco defeated Thompson 6-2, 6-0 to push her season mark to 3-5. The no. 6 match served as Buyukyan’s fourth win of the season, as she defeated Hobson 6-4, 6-2.

Central Arkansas looks to build on the win on Sunday, traveling to Kansas City, Missouri to play two matches. At 9:00 in the morning, the Bears will face Rockhurst, before facing off with UMKC at 1:00 in the afternoon.
