UCA Tennis Defeats Murray State 6-1 in Home Opener

The Central Arkansas tennis team opened its home season on Saturday, picking up a 6-1 victory over Murray State at the UCA Tennis Courts. The 6-1 victory is the second of the season for the Bears, who improve to 2-5.

Central Arkansas won all three doubles matches on the day, giving them a 1-0 edge heading into singles play. The team of Krizia Buck and Allison Murphy defeated Ashley Canty and Carla Suga 8-6 for their second doubles victory of the season. Simona Horsikyan and Sasha Ruocca took down Megan Blue and Erin Patton 8-5, earning their second doubles victory as well. Central Arkansas’ Kristina Horsikyan and Anna Buyukyan won the final doubles match by a score of 8-5, picking up their fifth doubles victory.

In singles play, the Bears acquitted themselves well, picking up three victories and dropping only one match, with two matches going unfinished. Simona Horsikyan took down Ashley Canty 6-4, 6-3 for her third victory of the season. Allison Murphy earned her fourth victory of the season, defeating Carla Suga by a score of 7-6, 1-6, 6-4. Murray picked up their only point of the day in the no. 3 match, as Megan Blue defeated Krizia Buck 6-4, 6-1. Buck now stands at 3-4 on the season. In the no. 4 singles match, Kristina Horsikyan defeated Erin Patton 6-3, 6-3. The no. 5 and no. 6 matches went unfinished, with UCA leading both at the end of the match. Sasha Ruocco was leading 6-7, 6-0, 6-2 in the fifth match and Anna Buyukyan was leading the sixth match 6-0, 6-7, 3-2.

The Bears return to the court tomorrow morning at nine o’clock, facing off with North Alabama. The match will be held at the indoor courts at Burns Park in North Little Rock.
