USA! USA! The Most Patriotic Moments in US Sports History

From “Do you believe in miracles?!” to Brandi Chastain stripping off the jersey in an emotional and unbelievable FIFA Women’s World Cup victory to George W. Bush throwing out the first pitch at Yankee Stadium after 9/11,  patriotism is often on display during sporting events in the USA. To celebrate Independence Day, we thought we would share with you a few of what we think are some of the “Most Patriotic Moments in US Sports History.”

This is our list and it includes Lou Gehrig’s “The Luckiest Man on the Face of the Earth” speech;  Jesse Owens sticking it to Adolph Hitler in 1936; America’s sweetheart, Mary Lou Retton, sticking the perfect 10 in 1984; and George Foreman proudly waving an American flag after winning the gold medal in 1968 – beating a Russian in the process.

There is a gem in our list of what has been called the greatest play in baseball history we think you will enjoy.

And no 4th of July would be complete without a fantastic rendition of the National Anthem.

There are so many moving  and inspiring of falg-waving sports moments to choose from, narrowing our list to 10 was hard. We hope you will share your tops with us in the comments below and share our list with your friends.

Happy birthday USA! We wish you all a relaxing holiday filled with good food (HOT DOGS! BARBECUE! WATERMELON!), fun times, and family.
