LITTLE ROCK – UALR senior Emelie Westrup has been named the Sun Belt Conference Women’s Golfer of the Month, the league office announced on Wednesday. Westrup fired a final-round four-over par 76 for a two-day total of 149 (+5) to earn medalist honors at the 11th Annual South Alabama Women’s Invitational at Azalea City Golf Club on Tuesday, Feb. 26.

The victory was Westrup’s second of the 2012-13 season, as she also earned medalist honors at the Missouri State/Payne Stewart Memorial on Oct. 16, 2012. The Bearums Verk, Norway-native held the first-round lead after shooting a one-over par 73 on Monday, then followed it up with a four-over par 76 on Tuesday. Westrup finished two shots ahead of South Alabama’s Kristen Golightly (74-77), ULM’s Kathy Sterling (74-77) and the Warhawks’ Valentine Loge (74-77), who each finished the tournament with identical two-day totals of 151 (+7).

Westrup leads the Trojans and ranks second in the league with a 73.88 scoring average. She and the Trojans will be back on the greens this weekend at the Rio Verde Invitational.
