Columbus, Ga. – A dream season came to an end for the Lady Eagles from Williams Baptist College on Wednesday afternoon.

The Williams softball team lost to second ranked Lubbock ChristianUniversity, 2-1. The loss wraps up a fourth place finish at the 2013 NAIA National Championship in Columbus, Ga.  It is the highest finish of a Lady Eagles softball team in school history.

Ace pitcher Karisa Hendrix was nearly unhittable in her last start in a Williams Baptist College uniform. Both Lady Chaps runs were courtesy of an error in the fourth inning and were scored unearned.  She threw six innings, allowing five hits. Hendrix rewrote the Williams softball record book in her four years at the school.  She finishes her senior year with a record of 25-7.

The Lady Eagles seemed to have the base paths full throughout the contest but were unable to score a run until a wild pitch in the seventh inning. The team had seven hits in the contest and left 10 runners on base.

“I felt we played really well. It is hard to talk about right now. Our girls battled hard every at-bat, and the breaks just didn’t fall our way. We just couldn’t get the big hit when we needed it,” said head softball coach Eric Newell.

The loss ends an incredible run for three seniors. Hendrix, Felicia Woodard, and Kacey Rasnic have taken the program to new heights. They came to a program that had not won an American Midwest Conference Championship before their arrivals. They leave with at least a share of four AMC regular season titles, as well as two NAIA National Championship appearances among other notable accomplishments.

“We feel like we have put our program on the map. Our team goals at the beginning of the season were to put others first and focus on relationships. These seniors have laid that down and I hope that foundation continues to grow,” said Newell.

The Lady Eagles finish the year with a 46-9 record.  The team’s record against NAIA top ten teams is 7-1 on the season and 10-3 against the top 25.  Williams finishes the National Championship further than any AMC team since 1995.
