Notes (School Records, Career Highs, Season Highs, etc.): Junior catcher Jake Wise hit .438 (7-for-16) on the week with a home run, eight RBI and three runs scored … Had an on-base percentage of .550 and posted a .625 slugging percentage for an OPS of 1.175 … Had at least one hit in four of the five games he played and, in the only game he didn’t record a hit, Wise reached base three times via walks … In the weekend series vs. Evansville, Wise went 6-for-10 at the plate with a homer and six RBI, helping the Razorbacks to a series sweep of the Purple Aces … In the series opener vs. Evansville, tied the game with a two-run home run in the second inning and gave Arkansas the lead for good with a RBI single in the fourth inning … Added three more RBI and had two hits in the series finale vs. Evansville … Defensively, Wise did not make an error in 41 chances, extending his errorless streak to 89 career games … For the season, Wise is hitting .360 with a home run and nine RBI.

Notes (School Records, Career Highs, Season Highs, etc.): Freshman left-handed pitcher Colin Poche pitched in two games on the week and had a 1-0 record with a 0.00 ERA in 7.1 innings of work … Made his collegiate debut in game one of Arkansas’ doubleheader vs. New Orleans and earned the victory … Tossed five scoreless innings vs. the Privateers and only allowed one hit with six strikeouts … Poche did not allow a hit until two outs in the fifth inning in his start vs. UNO … Pitched in relief in the series finale vs. Evansville, striking out one and only giving up one hit in 2.1 shutout innings … Entered in the fifth inning with the tying run on base and induced a soft line out to the second baseman to end the inning and keep Arkansas in front … He went on to throw two more scoreless innings in the outing … His performance helped the Razorbacks complete a three-game sweep of the Purple Aces.

Notes (School Records, Career Highs, Season Highs, etc.): Freshman outfielder Tyler Spoon started all five games for Arkansas on the week and had a .300 batting average with a pair of home runs and a team-high 10 RBI … Had at least one hit in each game on the week, extending his hitting streak to eight games … Spoon is the only Razorback to hit safely in the first eight games this season … Had three multi-RBI performances, driving in three runs in a pair of games and having one four-RBI game … Posted an on-base percentage of .417 and led the team with a .650 slugging percentage for an OPS of 1.067 … Drove in seven runs in Arkansas’ weekend series sweep over Evansville … In Saturday’s game, Spoon broke a 1-1 tie with an eighth inning grand slam to put Arkansas in front in an eventual 5-2 victory … Also added three RBI in the series opener vs. the Purple Aces … Hit the first home run of his collegiate career in the first game of the doubleheader vs. New Orleans and finished the contest with three RBI … Through the first eight games of the season, Spoon is batting .367 with a pair of homers and a team-leading 13 RBI.

 

Team Notes:

The top-ranked Arkansas baseball team went a perfect 5-0 on the week, posting a pair of shutouts in a midweek doubleheader sweep of New Orleans and sweeping a three-game weekend series from Evansville … The two shutouts in the doubleheader vs. the Privateers marked Arkansas’ first back-to-back shutouts since March 10 and March 13, 2012, when Arkansas blanked Binghamton and Gonzaga in back-to-back games … Offensively, Arkansas posted 42 runs over the five games and had a team batting average of .315 … Jake Wise led the Razorbacks at the plate with a .438 batting average with a homer and eight RBI … Brian Anderson hit .353 with two RBI and eight runs scored, while Matt Vinson hit .333 with six runs scored and three stolen bases … Tyler Spoon hit .300 and had a pair of homers with a team-leading 10 RBI … Eric Fisher also batted .300 on the week with two RBI and four runs scored … Jordan Farris and Jacob Mahan each added the first home run of their Razorback careers … On the mound, Arkansas compiled a team ERA of 1.05 … Ten different pitchers finished the week with an ERA of 0.00 … Trey Killian, Colin Poche and Landon Simpson each earned the first win of their collegiate careers during the week … Killian started the series finale vs. Evansville and allowed two unearned runs and struck out five in 4.2 innings … Poche pitched in a pair of games, throwing 7.1 shutout innings with seven strikeouts, while Simpson threw four shutout innings in two appearances … Barrett Astin started the second game against the Purple Aces and threw six scoreless innings with five strikeouts … Jalen Beeks appeared a team-high three games on the week and earned a win and a save, throwing 3.1 innings and allowing a run with two strikeouts … Brandon Moore earned his first win of the season, giving up two runs, only one earned, and striking out two in 3.2 innings … Cade Lynch turned in a pair of scoreless outings with four strikeouts, while Thomas Altimont, Trent Daniel, Michael Gunn, Chris Oliver and Tyler Wright each made one scoreless appearance on the week … For the season, Arkansas has a team batting average of .312, a team ERA of 1.54 and a team fielding percentage of .974 … Arkansas returns to action this week with four games scheduled as part of the Coca-Cola Classic in Surprise, Ariz. … The Razorbacks will face No. 20 Arizona State on Thursday and Saturday, Gonzaga on Friday and Pacific on Sunday.
