Arkansas State 2013 Football Schedule Features 2 SEC Opponents

Jeff Reed Author PageThe Arkansas State Red Wolves have completed their 2013 non-conference football schedule by adding a game at the University of Missouri. It is the first game of a two-game series.

ASU and the Southeastern Conference members Tigers will play on Sept. 28 in Columbia.  The teams will meet again on Sept. 12, 2015 in Jonesboro. Kickoff times were not announced.

“We’re very pleased to finish out our 2013 schedule with a quality opponent such as Arkansas State,” said Missouri Executive Associate Director of Athletics Bryan Maggard in a news release. “Due to recent changes in the Sun Belt Conference, we were able to secure this game, and we appreciate the efforts of Arkansas State’s administration in making this happen.”

Arkansas State Director of Athletics Terry Mohajir told Sporting Life Arkansas this month that ASU had reached an agreement with a “high quality opponent” for a home-and-home series. Sporting Life Arkansas strongly hinted that Missouri was the team, but was unable to confirm the Tigers were the choice.

The Red Wolves will open the 2013 season at home on Aug. 31 against Arkansas-Pine Bluff and they will play Idaho in Jonesboro on Oct. 12. A-State will at Auburn on Sept. 7 and at Memphis on Sept. 21.

The game at Mizzou will be the third meeting between the schools. The Tigers won the previous meetings, 52-20 in Columbia in 2004 and 44-17Red Wolves Recruiting Guide Kansas City in 2005, a game that was actually Arkansas State’s home game. Arkansas State has played eight SEC members, 42 games in all. It will be the second time for an SEC school to play in Jonesboro. ASU and Ole Miss played in 2002 in Jonesboro when Eli Manning was the Rebels’ quarterback.

It will be the first meeting with UAPB and the second time in three seasons the Red Wolves have played an in-state team. They crushed UCA 53-24.

The Sun Belt Conference schedule has not been released but Mohajir said ASU would have six homes game, meaning four of the conference games will be in Jonesboro. SBC members for 2013 are Texas State, South Alabama, Georgia State, Troy, Louisiana-Lafayette, Louisiana-Monroe and Western Kentucky.
