CONWAY, Ark. – David Batson was hired to the Hendrix College football staff as the offensive line coach on Friday.

Batson comes to Hendrix from Louisiana College where he played for and worked with Warrior head coach Justin “Buck” Buchanan. While in Pineville, Batson coached for four seasons, helping build the program into a perennial top 25 team and the Wildcats’ first playoff appearance in school history. In 2012, Batson served as the special teams coordinator and defensive line coach. Prior to that, he served as linebackers coach for three seasons.

“We are very excited to have David join our staff,” said Buchanan. “He was an exceptional player for me at Louisiana College and has developed into a tremendous coach. He is a very bright and energetic coach that I believe will only make us stronger as a staff and team. He comes from winning programs and philosophies and we are continually trying to surround ourselves with success.”

During his tenure, Batson totaled nine all-conference selections and was nominated by his peers for Future Football Coaches of America recognition by the AFCA in 2011. Batson also spent the last two seasons as LC’s junior varsity head coach where he amassed a 9-0 record, fostering a winning culture for the program’s future.

As a player at Louisiana College, Batson helped lead the Wildcats to their first winning season. He also led the team in tackles en route to becoming an All-American Southwest Conference selection. Batson earned a B.S. in Health and Physical Education from Louisiana College in 2008, and earned a Masters of Science in Sport Administration from Northwestern State University in 2011.

A native of West Monroe, La., Batson was an All-State linebacker for high school coaching legend Don Shows. Batson’s prep teams made four state championship appearances and a USA Today High School National Championship run in 2000.

Batson and his wife Kati have been married since 2008 and live in Conway.

Batson and the Warriors will kick open the 2013 season on Sept. 7 at home against Westminster College.
