Bears in Second Place After Round 1 of SLC Tournament

FRISCO, Texas _ The University of Central Arkansas women’s golf team sits in second place after one round of the 2013 Southland Women’s Golf Championship being played at the 5,977-yard Frisco Lakes Golf Club.

Junior Carly Dear and sophomore Malin Senneryd are tied for third after shooting even-par 72 in the opening round. Senior Julia Roth shot 2-over 74 and is tied for eighth, while freshman Sarah Brown shot 3-over 75 and is tied for 12th. Freshman Frida Svensson shot 78 and is tied for 26th place.

Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (292) has a one-stroke lead over UCA (293). Oral Roberts, Sam Houston State and Lamar are tied for third at 299, followed by McNeese State (302) and Stephen F. Austin (309). 

Senneryd was UCA’s top finisher at the 2012 championships when she tied for sixth place and carded the low round of the tournament with a 70. Roth is UCA’s top golfer this season, earned SLC Golfer of the Month award a record four times this season. She leads the conference with a 73.96 stroke average and won two tournaments during the regular season.

Round 2 is set for Tuesday, with the final round to be played on Wednesday.
