LITTLE ROCK – Saturday’s weather helped anglers fishing the Arkansas Big Bass Bonanza 2013. Temperatures dropped a few degrees, and a breeze added a bit of comfort – for everyone except leader Jonathan Swink. At the end of Saturday’s weigh-ins, the DeValls Bluff angler could breathe a sigh of relief – at least for one more night. His 6.63-lb. lunker, caught yesterday in the Dumas pool of the Arkansas River, held throughout the day, but it definitely wasn’t uncontested.

Little Rock Angler Francis Lee turned in a 6.40-lb. bass from the Dumas Pool at 10 a.m. on Saturday to match a 5.86-lb. bass he weighed in during Friday’s competition from the same area. Lee said both bass came from Merrisach Lake, a backwater of the river downstream from Pendleton. Aside from making Swink sweat, Lee stands to pick up some nice change by claiming hourly weigh-in bonuses and holding second place for the Dumas pool, should things stand.

The Pine Bluff and Fort Smith pools saw new leaders during day two’s competition. Charles Dickenson of Ozark claimed biggest fish so far in Fort Smith, with a 4.86-lb. bass, while Clinton Chandler climbed to the lead in Pine Bluff with a 5.64-lb. largemouth.

Pool leaders at the end of day two are:

Charles Dickenson, Ozark (4.86) – Fort Smith pool

Larry Gentry, Clarksville (6.05) – Dardanelle/Russellville pool

Matthew Hamby, Little Rock (6.34) – North Little Rock/Little Rock pool

Clinton Chandler, Lewisville (5.64) – Pine Bluff pool

Jonathan Swink, DeValls Bluff (6.63) – Dumas pool

The annual tournament is the result of a 14-year partnership with the Arkansas Hospitality Association and the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission. This tournament spans more than 300 miles of eligible fishing waters on the Arkansas River inside the state’s borders. The event is divided into five pools, and tournament action will resume at 6 a.m. Sunday morning with the final weigh-in being held at 1 p.m. Anglers can still register at any weigh-in location Sunday. The grand prize and other cash awards will be presented during Sunday’s award ceremony, at 4 p.m. at the Downtown Riverside RV Park in North Little Rock.

Day One results are available here.

The five weigh-in sites are:

Pool 1 – Clear Creek Park, Fort Smith
Pool 2 – Dardanelle State Park, Russellville side
