Brandon Allen Says Team ‘Light Years Ahead’

FAYETTEVILLE – The University of Arkansas football team continued spring practice on Tuesday afternoon inside Walker Pavilion in preparation for the 2014 season.

Junior quarterback Brandon Allen said spring practice is going well from his viewpoint, adding, “We are light years ahead of where we were last year.”

When asked how his role is changing as an upperclassman, Allen said he is “definitely more of a leader. I’m more vocal with our team and getting my point across and what I expect out of our offense.”

Allen also offers his opinions on the freshman quarterbacks he is working with this spring.

Offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Jim Chaney was available to the media after practice and spoke about Tuesday’s session.

“The rain came,” Chaney said. “We had practice inside, had good spirit, good energy about us. We did some situational stuff today. I’m pleased with their energy. We’ve got some things to correct, but for the most part, it looked pretty good.”

Chaney also spoke about the team’s first open scrimmage of the season held on April 5.

“You’ve got to take it all and look at every play individually and correct the things you can get done and continue moving on,” Chaney said. “What I was pleased with after watching all that scrimmage, is I thought our effort level was great. Our attitude remains high. I think we’re playing very hard. Quite honestly, the scrimmages that we had the previous season, I don’t remember hearing it the way I heard this one. I think our defense tackled exceptionally well and I thought that was very good to see. It’s making us a better offense.”
