Brittany Marquez of Lady Bisons Tennis Wins BSC Ann Rhoads Invitational

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Harding sophomore Brittany Marquez earned her third career individual title Monday with a four-stroke victory over Indiana State’s McCall Christopher at the BSC Ann Rhoads Invitational, hosted by Birmingham Southern. The 36-hole tournament was played at the par-72, 5,802-yard Oxmoor Valley Golf Course.

Marquez, a native of Cascade, Trinidad and Tobago, shot a 1-under 71 in round one Sunday and followed that with an 81 on Monday for a 152 total. She was second in the tournament with five birdies and made 19 pars. Christopher, who had six birdies, shot 77-79—156 to finish second. Marquez won the 2012 NSU Golf Classic in the fall and the 2012 Mulerider Classic last spring.

Harding tied for second in the nine-team event. Indiana State, an NCAA Division I school, won with 632 strokes. Harding and Methodist University were second at 653 with Montevallo fourth at 667.

Lady Bison sophomore Emily Plyler tied for sixth of the 43 golfers in competition and earned All-Tournament honors. She shot 79-81—160 for her ninth career top-10 finish. Plyler played the par 5s at a tournament-best 2-under and was third in the tournament with four birdies.

Harding senior So-Yun Kim was 14th at 165, senior Becca Godman tied for 27th at 176, and senior Whitney Ohlhausen tied for 32nd at 182. Lady Bison Lani Swartz played as an individual and placed 41st at 203. 

Harding will return to action on March 4-5 at the Diffee Ford-Lincoln Invitational hosted by Southern Nazarene University at Kicking Bird Golf Club in Edmond, Okla.
