FORT WORTH, Texas – The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff recorded three runs late in the game to rally pass TCU on Tuesday night at Lupton Stadium.
In the seventh inning, UAPB (4-9) took advantage of a pair of hit batters, a passed ball and a wild pitch to score a pair of runs for a 5-4 lead.
With two outs, Kirby Campbell was hit by the pitch to keep the inning alive. A passed ball allowed the tying run to score and Isias Alcantar doubled to put the Golden Lions on top. UAPB then tacked on an unearned run in the eighth to push its lead to two.
The Golden Lions opened up a three-run lead in the second inning on six hits and an error. Warren Stehn gave UAPB the lead with a bases loaded single. Calhoun made it 2-0 with a two-out single to center and an error allowed the third run to score.
Jaron Gold (1-0) picked up the win for the Golden Lions in four innings of work after relieving starter Stanten Jones. Jones registered five strike outs giving up four earned runs in four innings on the bump.
Justin Scharf (0-2) picked up the loss for TCU (3-8) seeing action in only two-thirds of an inning. Jantzen Witte drove in three runs for the Horned Frogs.
