CONWAY, Ark. – Hendrix College head football coach Justin “Buck” Buchanan has named Reed Heim as the Warriors’ defensive coordinator. Heim comes to Hendrix from Jesuit College Prep in Dallas where he was the linebackers coach and special teams coordinator and served as the Assistant Director of Athletic Performance.

A former three-time all-conference linebacker at Austin College in Sherman, Texas, Heim has twelve seasons of coaching experience.

Following his graduation from Austin in 2000 with degree in Business Administration, Heim coached one season at his alma mater in 2001, working with the inside linebackers and serving as the team’s strength coach during the off-season.

Heim coached one season at Louisiana College in Pineville, La., before joining the coaching staff at Virginia Military Institute in Lexington, Va. He spent four seasons (2003-06) at VMI, where he coached the defensive ends and linebackers. He also served three seasons as video coordinator and one season as recruiting coordinator.

He spent the 2007 season as the offensive graduate assistant at SMU, where he assisted in coaching the tight ends.

Heim was the defensive graduate assistant at Baylor University in Waco, Texas. From 2008-10, he worked with the linebackers and safeties. Baylor broke a 16-year bowl absence during his final season as a graduate assistant. While at Baylor, he earned a Master’s degree in Education (Sports Administration).

Heim is also certified as a strength and conditioning coach through the NSCA.

“We were very fortunate to be able to hire such a quality person and coach,” said Buchanan. “Reed was a very gifted student-athlete at Austin College and I was fortunate to have shared the playing field with him. I am even more excited to have the opportunity to share the sideline with him as a coach. He brings high energy coaching style combined with a devoted work ethic, and he will be a tremendous leader for our defense.”

Heim and the Warriors will take on Westminster College at Young-Wise Stadium on Sept. 7, 2013, in the College’s first game since 1960.
