Hendrix Lady Warriors Downed by First Place Millsaps

JACKSON, Miss. – The Hendrix College women’s basketball team fell to Millsaps College 70-54 in Southern Athletic Association play at the HangarDome on Sunday afternoon. The host Majors (13-8, 9-1), who are tied for first in the conference, used a 19-5 run in the second half to put the Warriors (1-20, 1-9) away.

In the opening period, Hendrix built a 24-17 lead with 9:03 left after a three-pointer by freshman guard Caitlin Kriesel-Bigler. Millsaps fought back with 16-6 run the rest of the half, taking a 33-30 lead into halftime.

The Majors led 42-38 with 14:42 to play in the game before going on the 19-5 run over the next six minutes, gaining an 18-point lead and control of the game.

From the field, the Warriors shot 35 percent (20-of-57), 3-of-13 from three-point range and 11-of-21 at the free throw line. Millsaps shot 47 percent (28-of-60), 4-of-19 from outside and 10-of-15 at the line. The Majors also had a 42-37 rebound edge.

Junior forward Katie Coughran led Hendrix with a career-high 15 points to go with two steals. Freshman forward Katy Gallien also had a season-best 14 points and dished out two assists. Junior center Jamie Tate came up with 11 points and 11 rebounds and Kriesel-Bigler had eight points and a season-high seven boards.

Miah Brooks led Millsaps with 13 points on 6-of-6 shooting and 13 rebounds. Velvet Johnson scored 12 points and Lovie Love added 10. Makalya Roberson scored 15 points off the bench.

Hendrix will return home on Friday when they host Oglethorpe University at 6 p.m.
