CONWAY, Ark. – In their final home games of the 2013 season, the Hendrix College softball team split a double-header with in-state foe University of the Ozarks at Warrior Field on Tuesday night. The visiting Lady Eagles (12-22) took the first game 2-1, but the Warriors (19-11) rebounded to win 10-1 in five innings via run rule.

In the nightcap, Hendrix outhit Ozarks 11-4. Freshman Kayla Patton (5-1) earned the win, allowing just four hits, an unearned run and three walks to go with two strikeouts. Whitney Price (1-7) gave up 11 hits, six earned runs, three walks and struck out two in four innings for the loss.

The Lady Eagles put one on the board in the top of first when left fielder Ali Mathis walked with two outs, and scored after an error and a RBI-single from right fielder Molly Bowman.

The Warriors answered with three runs on four hits in the bottom of the first. Junior left fielder Tiffany Hubbard led off with a base hit, and sophomore shortstop bunted for a single to put two on. After a pop up by freshman Jill Sikes, senior first baseman Ashley Halbert singled through the left side, scoring Hubbard. Larabee and Halbert also scored on the same play when UO catcher Shawnee Sorensen threw the ball away trying to get Larabee out at third.

Sikes hit a two-run single and senior third baseman Paula Burr had a two-run double in the second to make the game 7-1. In the drive Larabee knocked in sophomore second baseman Katey Havens with a sac fly and Sikes had a two-run base hit for the 10-1 final tally.

Burr went 3-for-3 with two driven in and Sikes had two hits and four RBI to lead the Warriors. Hubbard had two hits and scored three times. Senior center fielder Sydney Copeland drew a walk, was hit by a pitch and scored twice.

Bowman and first baseman Sheridan Barajas had two hits each for the Lady Eagles.

In game one, Bowman led the top of the second off with a base hit and moved to third on an error. Shortstop Arel Ferguson followed with a single up the middle for the first run of the game.

The contest remained 1-0 until the top of the seventh when Barajas struck out but reached first on a wild pitch to start the frame. After a sacrifice bunt, Mathis tripled Barajas in to make the game 2-0.

Hubbard led the bottom off with a single and Sikes drove her in with a double to make the game 2-1, but Ozarks pitcher Amber Rollins got the final three outs to end the game.

Rollins (9-7) allowed five hits, one run, one walk and fanned five for the win. Halbert (8-8) gave up seven hits, two runs, one walk and struck out four.

Five different Warriors had one hit apiece, with Sikes getting the only extra base hit with a double. Mathis went 3-for-4 for Ozarks.

Hendrix will take on Rhodes College in a Southern Athletic Association double-header in Memphis on Saturday.
