Hendrix Women Place 4th, Men 6th in St. Louis

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Hendrix College women’s swimming team finished fourth and the men took sixth at the Washington University Invitational on Friday and Saturday.

For the Warrior women, sophomore Sydney Haldeman of Conway placed fifth in the 200 yard backstroke in 2:23.75 and sixth in the 100 backstroke with a season-best 1:05.37. She, along with freshmen Kate Henricks, Bayley Krell and Caroline Forbes were fourth in the 200 medley relay in 2:00.38 and in the 400 medley in 4:31.36. 

Haldeman, Forbes, senior Sheryl Burt and sophomore Laura Price swam the 800 freestyle relay in 8:54.78, placing fourth. Burt, Haldeman, Forbes and junior Jo Claire Robertson finished fourth in the 400 free relay in 4:03.70.

Krell took fourth in the 100 breaststroke in 1:11.83 and sixth in the 200 breaststroke in 2:39.58. Burt swam a season-best time of 2:30.52 in the 200 yard individual medley, placing 11th. 

Seniors Emily Hanson and Alanna Montgomery, sophomore Taylor Keplin and freshman Sarah McHugh finished fifth in the 200 freestyle relay in 1:59.05.

Other top finishers for the Warriors were sophomore Ava Commissariat in the 200 butterfly (12th, 12:49.33), Price in the 1650 freestyle (11th, 20;45.27) and the 500 freestyle (18th, 6:04.43) and Forbes in the 50 freestyle (13th, 27.10), 100 butterfly (13th, 1:07.52) and 100 freestyle (19th, 58.54).

The host Bears won the women’s field with 1,144.5 points. They were followed by DePauw (809.5), Lindenwood (653), Hendrix (368), Rose-Hulman (252) and Principia (161). 

For the Hendrix men, freshman James Gill paced 12th 1650 freestyle with a time of 17:58.12 and was 17th in the 500 freestyle in 5:44.90. Junior John Byford took 17th in the 200 yard individual medley in 2:09.92, 18th in the 100 breaststroke in 1:07.47 and 24th in the 200 freestyle in 1:04.92. 

Freshman Dylan Rogers swam a season-best 1:01.56 in the 100 butterfly, finishing 25th. He also finished 18th in the 100 backstroke in 1:04.92. Sophomore Samuel Maynard placed 15th in the 200 yard butterfly with a time of 2:20.45. Freshman Eric Mullins was 23rd in the 100 freestyle in 54.47 and 24th in the 50 freestyle in 24.58.

Byford, Rogers, Mullins and Gill finished fourth in the 800 yard freestyle relay with a time of 8:07.16 and sixth in the 400 free relay in 3:37.27. The medley relay team of Rogers, Byford, Maynard and Millins were sixth in both the 200 (1:54.12) and 400 (4:12.12).

DePauw placed first amongst the men’s teams with 1,017 points. They were followed by Lindenwood (857), Washington (749), Rose-Hulman (532), Principia (212) and Hendrix (115).

The Warriors will be off until Friday, Jan. 18 when they face off against Arkansas-Little Rock and Rhodes in Little Rock.
