Jackson State Outshoots UAPB Golden Lions

Jackson, MS- The Jackson State University Tigers rallied behind the seven three pointers by Christian Williams to defeat the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Golden Lions 82-67 at the Lee E. Williams AAC, tonight in SWAC basketball action.

Williams started the game on a fever pitch hitting his first three at the 19:37 mark, and JSU would continue to make buckets from the field throughout the first half to go into the locker room up three, 39-36.

Terrell Kennedy came out tonight with the intentions of playing a big game in front of his home town crowd. Kennedy, a senior forward from Jackson, had 31 points on 10 of 20 shooting; he also made 11 0f his 14 free throw attempts.

The Golden Lions didn’t have enough down the stretch as JSU outscored UAPB 43-31 in the second half. Despite the Golden Lions winning the battle on the boards 34-31, the turnovers went in Jackson State’s favor 12-15.

Davon Haynes scored 14 points and grabbed 8 rebounds, while Lazabian Jackson chipped in with 10.

Williams was the high point man for the Tigers with 27 points, knocking nine of eighteen shots from the field. Dundrecous Nelson helped his teams cause with 16 points, respectively.

 

The Golden Lions are road next week with a road swing through Alabama with stops in Montgomery and Huntsville. They will return home February 9th as they host Southern University.
