Jim Harris Live: Arkansas at Texas Tech

It’s game day: Arkansas at Texas Tech – just like the old days of the Southwest Conference. Today’s game time is set for 2:30 p.m. and will be televised nationally on ABC. Jim Harris will be posting his thoughts throughout the game here, so check this page often. (Scroll down about halfway and you’ll see the posts from Jim.)

Arkansas defensive line coach Rory Segrest on Taiwan Johnson’s play: “The thing about Taiwan is he’s an attention-to-detail guy. He tries to do things the way you ask him to do it. He’s explosive. He’s got some good quickness. He gives us some options inside. From a movement standpoint we can do some things with him there.” Segrest on Texas Tech’s offense: “They do some different things. They’ve got some really good skill guys and they try to get the ball in their hands. They will run some quick plays and they will also try to stretch the field. We’ve just got to make sure we’re consistent, attacking the line of scrimmage and stopping the run first.” Arkansas defensive backs coach Clay Jennings on the safety rotation: “We had three main guys last week: Liddell, Turner and Gaines. I believe we’ll have De’Andre Coley back this week as well so we’re excited to have him back. It’s fun to almost be totally healthy again.” Jennings on Josh Liddell’s play: “We played around 70 snaps, I think Josh played about 35 of them. He made a couple of freshman mistakes. The one good thing that he has done this week is he’s come out and corrected those and had a pretty good week of practice.” Arkansas safety Alan Turner on the defense the last two days of practice: “I feel like we did pretty well. We know we had some things where we made mistakes but that’s where film comes in and the next day we come in and try to fix those mistakes.” The Razorbacks are set to battle Texas Tech Saturday afternoon in Lubbock, Texas in a game that will be televised nationally on ABC. Kickoff against the Red Raiders is slated for 2:30 p.m. arkansas at texas tech
2A:40 p.m. — With everybody telling Jarod Collins to get out of the way, he isn’t looking for the ball and still touches a short punt, and Tech recovers at the Razorbacks’ 31.
2:37 p.m. — Arkansas with great coverage on a line-drive kickoff by Sam Irwin-Hill. Tech starts at its 18. Tevin Mitchel gets the start after missing two games with a bad hamstring, and makes back-to-back defensive knockdowns of little slant passes over the middle. Fresh legs!
2:36 p.m. — Texas Tech wins the toss and will receive. Coach Kliff Kingsbury wants his Red Raiders to start fast. The Red Raiders will be moving out of the north. The weather is overcast and cool.
2:30 p.m. — We’re just a few minutes from kickoff. This has the feeling of a possible breakthrough for the Bret Bielema program at Arkansas, a significant win over a FBS nonconference foe. Arkansas should have managed it at Rutgers last year but let that one get away. Ultimately, after Arkansas had controlled the game with backup A.J. Derby at quarterback, the Razorbacks lost the battle of field position to run their offense, the kicking game gave up a punt return that turned momentum, and the Arkansas back seven on defense was unable to match Rutgers’ offense in blowing a 17-point lead. We fully expect the Razorbacks’ back seven to be tested again today for 60 minutes. The offense should be better than it was at Rutgers with Brandon Allen at quarterback and an improved offensive line to open holes for three stout running backs. Here we go.
