7:15 p.m., Final score Arkansas 34-14. That’s really all from here, all summed up in the previous entries on the blog. Bielema in the post-game was pleased with the team’s physicality and was sure the Hogs won in that phase. “Some teams don’t always want to play the full four quarters,” he said, not directed at Louisiana but rather at the way his Hogs played physically in the second half on both offense and defense. The injury situation didn’t look bad. Williams returned from his earlier stinger and rushed for 151 yards. Rohan Gaines may have bumped knees with a ULL player and was pulled for precautionary reasons. He had a knee bruise in the preseason as well. Zach Hocker was rested after the Hogs were comfortably ahead because of a groin issue that had bothered him the past few days. Otherwise, we’ll have to wait for the full report Sunday. Williams and Collins became the first Hog running backs to both rush for more than 100 yards in the same game since Felix Jones and Darren McFadden did it in 2007. The past five years, it’s typically been two or more receivers catching passes for more than 100 yards. Arkansas still passed for 230 yards, with 193 of that coming in the first half.
5:55 p.m. 34-14 Ark — Arkansas’ first interception of the season comes from a defensive lineman, of all people. DE Chris Smith deflected a pass and JaMichael Winston corraled it for a turnover that ought to turn out the lights on this one. I was beginning to wonder if the Hogs should have at least tried a field goal on a fourth-and-2 at the ULL 21 on their previous series, only because there was enough time that a 20-point lead didn’t seem completely safe. Yes, Arkansas’ defense has steadily gotten stronger all day, and ULL only has 14 points, but the idea of the Cajuns putting 5 receivers out and winging it still seemed possible. But that should do it here.
5:42 p.m. — So, where did all the fans go? I know it’s hot, but jeepers, did you come here expecting Arkansas to have this many players looking this good and to be up 34-14 after three? Really? You’d think it’s a spring game. I’ll try to get a picture and tweet this. Also, I understand there are several thousand tickets still available for next Saturday’s game with Samford. That shouldn’t be the case, no matter who the opponent is. Act like an SEC program you Arkansas fans. (All of you who are here, or watching, or just couldn’t make it, ignore the previous editorial comment.)
5:40 p.m. 34-14 Arkansas — And that’s the end of three.
5:37 p.m. 34-14 UA — Well, Hunter Henry is indeed human and a true freshman after all. He had a fumble after a reception early in the second half, and then just flat dropped an easy catch that would have kept a drive alive in ULL territory. It’s OK, I only see great things ahead for this kid. Same for Alex Collins, who according to the UA stat folks became the first true freshman since Felix Jones in 2005 to rush for 100 yards in game. He has 103 yards (let’s hope that’s not a jinx and that he loses 4 the rest of the way). Arkansas’ defense has also taken control, pitching another impressive three-and-out.
