Left Field: Why would Petersen stay at Boise?

By now you’ve heard the audio, and it’s coach-speak at best.

Chris Petersen, coach of the “fly-in-the-ointment” (Timmy B) Boise State Broncos denying reports that he’s interested in other jobs. The Traveler has written a piece on coach Petersen within the last 8-hours as well. So, maybe there’s a little smoke on the horizon with regards to Petersen.

My question is this: When your margin of error each season is one game, why not improve your chances? 

After dropping the season opener to a now 6-6 Michigan State team and another game to SDSU, Boise stands poised to accept an invite to the Las Vegas Bowl. Far better than the Hogs’ bowl opportunities but by all accounts the best a 10-2 Boise team can muster and below their expectations.

The conference land grabs are in high-gear and “Boise to the Big East” seems stuck together with tape, at best. Petersen has such a reputation that he could grab any one of the open head coaching jobs right now. That number of openings seems to increase daily.

So, why stay at Boise?
