Live with Jim Harris: Ole Miss at Arkansas

It’s game day: Ole Miss at Arkansas. The forecast is rainy, but there’s no better time than today on CBS starting at 2:30 for the Hogs to continue the winning ways and beat the Rebels.

Jim Harris will be posting his thoughts throughout the game here, so check this page often. (Scroll down about halfway and you’ll see the posts from Jim.)

Ole Miss at Arkansas

Ole Miss at Arkansas: Wouldn’t mind seeing the Hogs in the end zone often today and the Rebels, not so much.

Ole Miss has turned the quarterbacking over to DeVante Kincade.
Apparently the right side of the offensive line heard a different call from Austin Allen than the left side. The entire right side jumped, and it was a jumper straight to the right for whatever reason. That 5-yard penalty put the Hogs in a third and 7 and Allen just threw away a toss in the flat for Keon. Ole Miss starts at its 26 after the punt. Until Arkansas gets off that 27 or the Rebels just toss in the towel, consider me still concerned that Ole Miss could score 28 in this quarter. They won’t be starting with a holding call on first down.
Arkansas 27-0, end of third quarter — The Razorbacks face a third-and-a-long-one or maybe 2 at the Arkansas 46 to start the fourth quarter. The Hogs just need more first downs, run clock, and keep the defense on the field resting for a while. The defense has played its butt off. Ole Miss had 137 yards in the third quarter alone, all between the 20s. The Hogs made the defensive stops. Arkansas had 70 total yards.
Another between the 20s drive by Ole Miss into good position for a score, but Arkansas stiffens at its 27, and Bo Wallace throws incomplete four straight times. On the fourth-and-10 incompletion, Jared Collins made a play on Vince Sanders that every cornerback in the SEC makes and the ball was incomplete. Sanders vehemently argued the no pass-interference call. This is where the Ole Miss fans cry, “The SEC doesn’t want us to be one of the final four teams in the playoff.” On third and 10 was one of the best defensive calls of the game. Arkansas showed pressure up the middle from linebackers Martrell Spaight and Josh Williams, with Brooks Ellis out for the play. Spaight got the expected pressure on Wallace, while Williams was right where he needed to be, defending the middle screen. He almost had a pick.
Rohan Gaines had to sit out the first half because of his hit above the shoulders against an LSU receiver in the second half of last week’s game. But Gaines made his presence felt first on a big hit after a Rebels catch today, and then came this “I’m back play.” Bo Wallace had a route that would get TE Evan Engram open in the left corner of the end zone. But Gaines played the ball perfectly and picked it at the goal line, then enjoyed a convoy or Razorbacks taking him back up the Hogs’ right sideline (in front of the Rebels bench) the distance. Gaines nearly lost the ball going into the end zone (Tevin Mitchel still fell on it for Arkansas, so it was going to be a touchdown) and the officials looked at the play. But it was upheld as a score for Gaines and a four touchdown lead on the Rebels with 3:38 to play in the game. It still should be obvious to everybody that Ole Miss can move it fast, as the Rebels needed four plays to get it inside the red zone after the Hogs’ field goal. But for the second time, Ole Miss could not finish. Arkansas may have finished the Rebels there.
