Live with Jim Harris: Ole Miss at Arkansas

It’s game day: Ole Miss at Arkansas. The forecast is rainy, but there’s no better time than today on CBS starting at 2:30 for the Hogs to continue the winning ways and beat the Rebels.

Jim Harris will be posting his thoughts throughout the game here, so check this page often. (Scroll down about halfway and you’ll see the posts from Jim.)

Ole Miss at Arkansas

Ole Miss at Arkansas: Wouldn’t mind seeing the Hogs in the end zone often today and the Rebels, not so much.

2:31 p.m. — Arkansas’s senior football players are getting the special treatment today as this is the last home game, individually running out to midfield to their families and then to the opposing 40 for photos before heading to the Hog sideline.
2:28 p.m. — Arkansas’s staff liked the look in the all red last week so much, the Hogs are going with it again today — red from helmet to pants. Ole Miss has different jerseys (both home and road) emphasizing either red or blue depending on the day, and today is a road blue day for the Rebels with blue trim and numbers against a white background, along with the traditional gray pants and blue helmets.
2:19 p.m. — Arkansas’s marching bands has the ponchos on. I imagine the players will, as well. We drove through intense rain on the drive up from Little Rock getting here. However, the “future” weather map shows this line of storms from Oklahoma dissipating over Fayetteville after 4:30, and the really heavy lightning will still be a ways behind us before the game ends. Right now there is light drizzle at the most as the fans meander into the stadium.
2:09 p.m. — So, to reinterate, Korliss Marshall is suspended again. Arkansas will miss his speed. The Hogs will not miss is cavalier attitude toward discipline away from the field. As for us, remember, this is a live blog that welcomes your comments, and you can leave your comments in the comment section here, or you can email me at jim.harris@sportinglifearkansas.com, and you can enjoy the 140-character Twitter tit-for-tat that I encourage as well. I enjoy the correspondence, whichever side you happen to take, and encourage you to join in wherever to talk Hogs and Rebels. Kickoff as we type this is 27 minutes away. For a preview of the game, read my column also on this site, as Arkansas tries to validate its success of last week in dismantling LSU 17-0. Today, I see the Hogs prevailing 17-14.
2:01 p.m. — We’ve traded frigid weather from last week to a little more “balmy” — temperatures heating up here to a whole 57 degrees today — and torrential rain before kickoff of the Arkansas vs. Ole Miss game. Not to let the downpour of bad news continue, but a rumor was making the rounds on Dickson Street last night among students — and conveyed to me by someone who spoke with those students — that Korliss Marshall, who already sat out three games due to a university suspension, was no longer part of the Razorbacks. That hasn’t been confirmed or denied by the sports information office and no release has been issued, but if Marshall is playing today, he might want to join the rest of the skill players in warmups. So far, no sign of No. 33. The absence of Korliss Marshall, who is probably the fastest player on the Razorbacks, would first hurt the kickoff return team, though that was no factor last week with LSU’s one kickoff into the end zone to start the game. The offense worked Marshall into a couple of plays where he showed his speed early, using Marshall that little touch pass speed sweep play that has also gone to the likes of Keon Hatcher or Demetrius Smith, and …. hold the presses, the press box has made it official that Korliss Marshall has been suspended for the game and that Coach Bret Bielema will address the suspension after the game in his post-game remarks. After his most recent suspension, Bielema said that Marshall would have just one more chance or would be through with his Razorback career.
