McClellan Trounces Helena-West Helena

Little Rock McClellan (8-5, 2-0) went on an 18-0 first half run to spark a blowout of Helena-West Helena Central (3-4,0-2) by a score of 82-58 at the Lions’ Den Gymnasium.

After falling behind 14-9 early in the first quarter, the Lions went on an 18-0 run that stretched until the 5:02 mark of the second quarter when Helena-West Helena’s Anthony Lewis hit a basked to make the score 27-16. McClellan stretched that lead to 44-26 by the intermission.

Helena-West Helena cut the lead to 12 at 49-37, but the Lions answered with a 10-2 run to push the lead to 59-39. The Cougars never got close again as McClellan stretched its lead to as much as 25 points in the fourth quarter before the Lions put in the reserves.

The McClellan defense forced the Cougars into 38 turnovers.

McClellan was led by Tyrin Greg Hollis with 17 points, followed by Davion Givens with 12 points. The Cougars were led by Anthony Lewis with 22 points.

In girls’ action, the Lady Lions were victorious by a score of 51-40.
