OBU Tiger Football Remains Undefeated

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – The OBU Tiger football remains undefeated and improved their season record to 4-0 on Saturday, defeating the Southwestern Oklahoma State University Bulldogs by a score of 31-14.

Junior quarterback Benson Jordan led the Tigers to victory as he threw for 364 yards and one touchdown pass that went to freshman Kendall Bruce. Benson also added a rushing TD. Junior Steven Kehner led OBU in rushing with 52 yards and a touchdown run. Freshman receiver Ke’Vontae Pope had a breakout performance for the Tigers, catching 14 passes for 135 yards. Ouachita totaled 460 yards of offense and finished with 25 first downs. Junior kicker Matthew Ehasz also pitched in offensively with three field goals.

The Tiger defense had their way all game, only giving up 133 yards of offense. OBU had such success by forcing the Bulldogs to punt seven times and only allowing four third-down conversions for SWOSU. The Bulldogs also were limited to a possession time of 18 minutes and a total of nine first downs. Last week’s GAC Defensive Player of the Week, senior Antwion Patterson recorded nine tackles and two sacks. Senior Augustine Ume-Ezeoke added eight tackles, and senior Ricky Brown had seven tackles, one sack and a forced fumble that he also recovered.

Ouachita fell behind early in the first quarter after a Bulldog interception return for a touchdown. The Tigers had a short memory, however, responding with a field goal by Ehasz, a touchdown run by Kehner, a second field goal by Ehasz and touchdown pass from Jordan to Bruce. The first half came to a close with the Tigers holding a 20-7 lead.

The second half was very similar to the first, as SWOSU scored first, but then the Tigers took over. Jordan scored on a one yard TD run and Ehasz got his third field goal. The Tigers last score came on a safety that gave OBU a 31-14 lead that lasted the rest of the game.

The Tigers are at home next week as they try to keep their undefeated season alive against Northwestern Oklahoma State. Kickoff is at 1:00 p.m.
