FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The 18th-ranked University of Arkansas swimming and diving team (9-1, 3-1 SEC) travels to Lawrence, Kan., on Saturday to face the Kansas Jayhawks (5-3) in the final dual meet of the 2012-13 season. The meet will begin at 10 a.m.
“They have some strong competition in just about every event,” head coach Sean Schimmel said. “We are going to have to be on our toes when we go in there and just like we always do take it one event at a time, swim in our own lanes, control what we can control and be competitive. They are certainly very strong and we are going to have to be sharp when we are on the road against them.”
There have been 27 meetings between the Razorbacks and the Jayhawks, with Arkansas winning 12 of those contests, including the last five. In the most recent meeting, Arkansas squared off against Kansas last season claiming a 199-96 victory at the Arkansas Natatorium.
A win against the Jayhawks would put Arkansas in a tie for the best record in school history, as Arkansas finished with a 10-1 record in the 2008-09 season.
“I’m looking to see the team get back on the road and look sharp,” Schimmel said. “We talk about championship preparation and this is our last one for the women going into the SEC Championships and I’m looking for them to go into that pool and step up and make it their own, have great race strategies and obviously get to the wall first.”
After the Razorbacks’ weekend road swing they head to the Southeastern Conference Championship in College Station, Texas. The SEC Championship will take place from Feb. 19-23 with the Texas A&M Aggies serving as the host institution.
