PRIMM, Nev. (3/11/13) – Led by three players currently among the top 20 leaders, the Arkansas State women’s golf team shot a first-round 313 Monday at the Jackrabbit Invitational to complete the 54-hole tournament’s first day of competition in third place among 13 teams.

The Red Wolves’ 313 shot on the Lakes course at the Primm Valley Golf Club was their lowest this spring, and leaves them only one stroke behind second-place Oakland and just seven behind leader Houston Baptist.

A-State’s Jennifer Loiacano is tied for a team-best fourth place with a 75, but is joined in the top-20 individual leaders by teammates Marie Couffignal and Anna Carling. Loiacano’s 75 was her lowest score this spring, and the senior is looking for her third top-10 finish this year.

Couffignal is tied for sixth place after carding a season-best 76, while Carling is tied for 17th place with a 79. Also competing for ASU, Anna Flanrey is tied for 39th place with an 83 and Courtney Manning stands 63rd with a 90.

The second round was suspended due to darkness and will resume Tuesday morning. The third round will follow to complete the two-day tournament.
