JONESBORO, Ark. (2/3/13) – The Arkansas State women’s tennis team was defeated by Troy 4-1 on Sunday. The Red Wolves drop to 1-1 overall and 0-1 in Sun Belt Conference play on the young season.

Sophomore Tamara Slijepcevic ran her current match winning streak to 11 with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Karoline Grymel.

“Tamara played an outstanding match,” ASU tennis head coach Marina Engelbrecht said. “I loved her focus, mental toughness and determination today.”

Sophomore Jess Heeps-Eriksen lost a tough match to Rosaura Ramirez-Vega 6-3, 6-7, 7-6. Junior Janie Nowland lost in straight sets to Hannah Toro 6-2, 6-2 while senior Ioana Teu fell to Lyubov Dorofeeva 6-1, 6-4. Junior Biljana Miloshevska was defeated by Anja Cosovic 6-3, 6-1 which set the final mark of 4-1 Troy.

“We played a tough team today,” Engelbrecht added. “We didn’t use the opportunities we had to win close games which would have given us the chance to win close matches.”
